Fredericton Fusion’s Jr. NBA Program Continues to Grow Grassroots Basketball

Youth basketball is thriving in the capital region thanks to the continued success of the Fredericton Fusion’s Jr. NBA program, which serves young athletes through structured, skill-based programming for U7 and U9 age groups.

As part of Canada Basketball’s nationwide Jr. NBA initiative, the Fusion program offers developmentally appropriate training and team experiences for children born between 2017 and 2020. The program features three age divisions: U7 Co-Ed (born in 2019 or 2020), U9 Boys (born in 2017 or 2018), and U9 Girls (also born in 2017 or 2018).

Each participant is assigned to a team and takes part in two sessions per week—one weekday practice and one weekend session held on either Saturday or Sunday mornings. This balanced format provides young players with consistent opportunities to learn basketball fundamentals, build confidence, and engage with teammates in a fun, supportive setting.

Rooted in the core principles of physical literacy, teamwork, and sport enjoyment, the Jr. NBA curriculum is tailored to early development stages. Players are introduced to essential basketball skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and movement, all while learning the values of sportsmanship and fair play.

Every registered player receives a Jr. NBA reversible jersey, basketball, and access to Canada Basketball’s national resources, helping connect local athletes with the broader Canadian basketball community.

The Fredericton Fusion continues to build on its strong foundation, ensuring that youth of all skill levels have a positive entry point into the sport. The Jr. NBA program remains a key piece in the club’s long-term commitment to athlete development and community involvement.
